Eastern Greene Fire Territory battles fire on State Road 45

GREENE CO. – On Sunday, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Eastern Greene Fire Territory responded to a structure fire in the 2000 block of State Road 45 South.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames emanating from the roof and the south end of the structure. Crews immediately initiated an interior attack and successfully brought the fire under control.

The structure consisted of two connected mobile homes with an addition. The fire originated in the south end of the second mobile home and is believed to have been started by a heater used to thaw frozen water lines.

The fire caused significant damage to the second mobile home and the addition, with the front mobile home sustaining fire damage, smoke damage, and water damage. The property was deemed a total loss.

The homeowner reported having no insurance. The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family with immediate needs.
