NEW ORLEANS—The Super Bowl has always been free to watch with an antenna, but fans can stream the game for the first time at no cost. Fox, which is airing Super Bowl LIX on February 9, announced that the event will be simulcast for free on Tubi, its ad-supported streaming platform.

The Kansas City Chiefs will play the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game next weekend. For the NFC, the Washington Commander will play the winner of Sunday’s game, the Philadephia Eagles.
The New Orleans Saints are hosting Super Bowl LIX (59) on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, in the Caesars Superdome, with kickoff slated for 6:30 p.m. ET. Kendrick Lamar will perform during halftime of Super Bowl 59.

Tubi, primarily known for offering reruns and budget movies, has made strides to appeal to younger, cord-cutting viewers. By streaming the Super Bowl, Fox aims to bring new attention to the service, which has become a significant player in the growing free streaming market.
In the past, streaming the Super Bowl required either a subscription to services like Paramount+, Peacock, or a cable login to access it via the Fox Sports app. Some viewers also needed pricey bundles such as Fubo, DirecTV Stream, or YouTube TV to watch the game. While the big game has continuously aired for free on local TV affiliates via antenna, Fox’s move to stream it on Tubi is a significant shift.
This strategy could help Fox retain viewers on Tubi after the Super Bowl. Last year, CBS’s Paramount+ streamed the Super Bowl, claiming it was the “most streamed” in history, though specific viewer numbers were not disclosed. Fox’s plan with Tubi could be a similar success, aiming to leverage the Super Bowl’s massive audience to grow the platform’s user base further.
Fox purchased Tubi in 2020 for $440 million and has seen impressive growth since. The number of monthly active users of Tubi reached 97 million, a 25% increase from the previous year. According to Nielsen, Tubi now ranks as the second-most watched free streaming app after Roku Channel, outperforming rival Pluto TV.
Along with the Super Bowl, Fox will also air a pregame show called “Tubi Red Carpet at Super Bowl LIX.” The show will cover the celebrity, fashion, and cultural elements behind America’s most prominent sports event, live from New Orleans.
