National Guard aids Jasonville during water plant emergency

JASONVILLE— The Indiana National Guard mobilized this week to assist thousands of residents affected by a crisis at the Jasonville Water Plant, delivering critical water supplies to the community.

Residents in Jasonville remain without running water after a weekend fire destroyed the town’s water plant.

Guard members brought a truck equipped with two potable water tanks, a tent, and a heater through a coordinated response between the National Guard and the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

The emergency response served more than 5,000 individuals in Jasonville and surrounding communities who rely on the plant for their water supply. Mayor Eric Shipman praised the Guard’s swift action, particularly its ability to reach vulnerable populations.

“It goes without saying that this is an absolute blessing,” Shipman said. “The National Guard came in and were able to take that water to our nursing home, to get water to people who couldn’t get out. It really did help. It was an absolute game changer.”

Lt. Col. Amy Hoover emphasized that such emergency response aligns with the Guard’s core mission- “Always ready, always there” is the motto of the Indiana National Guard.

Greene County Health Department issued a public service announcement as thousands of Jasonville customers remain without water.
