MONROE CO.— A firefighter was injured while battling a large house fire in Monroe County on Saturday night. The fire broke out at a residence on Reynolds Road, north of Bloomington, around 7:30 p.m.

Monroe Fire Protection District crews arrived to find most of the home, excluding the attached garage, engulfed in flames. Due to the intensity of the fire and limited access to water in the area, crews initiated a “defensive attack” to contain the blaze. Firefighters set up multiple dump tanks to shuttle water back to the fire, which slowed the progress of the firefighting efforts.

The homeowner, who was inside at the time, noticed smoke in the upper levels of the house and immediately called 911. Fortunately, the homeowner evacuated the property safely before emergency responders arrived.

One firefighter was injured during the operation and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
