TERRE HAUTE – Bloomington South rolled to a 9-0 win over Bedford North Lawrence in the Class 3A sectional semifinal at Terre Haute North on Thursday night.
The Panthers (12-3-1) advanced to face Terre Haute South (13-3-2 after a 1-0 win over Terre Haute North in the first semifinal) in the championship on Saturday afternoon.
South scored all of its goals in the first half during the mercy-rule triumph.
“They were very skilled and very fast, and we had a hard time defending them,” BNL coach Bret Roberts said. “We stabbed at the ball the first half, which led to several goals. In the second half,, we did not give up a goal and played much better. We even had a couple of offensive opportunities. It is hard to go back out and play a second half when the score is 9-0, but they did, and I am proud of them for that.”
Val Bunde scored four goals for the Panthers, while Maddie Norman and Elowen Wiltz added two each.
The Stars finished with a 4-10-1 record.
