Bedford woman arrested on multiple drug charges at Walmart

BEDFORD – A 42-year-old Bedford woman was arrested on Saturday evening on multiple drug-related charges following an incident in the parking lot of a local Walmart, according to the Bedford Police Department.

Jennifer Young was taken into custody after police responded to a report of possible drug activity in the Walmart parking lot.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Landon Jones, Walmart Asset Protection alerted police to a woman allegedly smoking illegal narcotics in a white pickup truck near the store’s Lawn and Garden section at approximately 7:29 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers observed Young in a white Chevrolet Silverado. As they approached, Young reportedly made suspicious movements, appearing to conceal items inside the vehicle. Officers noted a glass smoking device in plain view and observed smoke emanating from it.

Canine Castiel was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics. Following a search of the vehicle, officers reportedly discovered:

  • Multiple glass smoking devices containing a crystal-like substance
  • An orange pill bottle containing a crystal-like substance
  • A glass vial containing a crystal-like substance
  • Two clear plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance
  • A red cut straw containing residue

Field tests conducted on some of the substances yielded positive results for both methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to the affidavit.

Young was transported to the Bedford Police Department for booking and subsequently to the Lawrence County Jail. During processing at the jail, an additional pill identified as Buprenorphine Hydrochloride and Naloxone Hydrochloride, a Schedule III controlled substance, was reportedly found in Young’s possession.

Young is facing charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of narcotic drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.
