Shoals community is mourning the loss of their Town Marshal

SHOALS – The Shoals community is mourning the loss of Town Marshal Todd Eckert. 

Marshal Eckert, 56, passed away over the weekend from health complications after a battle with cancer. He passed away on Sunday, April 14th, at Daviess County Hospital in Washington.

Marshal Eckert worked as the Town Marshal of Shoals for over 20 years. He cared for the people, helping them however he could, and enjoyed serving the community and the Town of Shoals.

The town is celebrating Marshal Eckert’s legacy—a legacy of dedication, strength, and inspiration. His life’s work is a testament to what is possible when passion meets perseverance.

For those who knew him, worked with him, or were inspired by his journey, Marshal Eckert’s memory will continue to influence and motivate, reminding those of the indelible impact one individual can have across multiple spheres of life.

Born November 7, 1967, in Huntingburg, he was the son of Eddie Dale and Mary Lou (Steffen) Eckert.

Todd graduated from Forest Park High School with the Class of 1986.

He married Grace Cardwell on June 10, 2023, and she survives.

He enjoyed working for many years at the Wagler Motorsports Track in Lyons. Todd loved spending time with his family, especially his grandbabies and church family at Church of the Cross.

Surviving are his wife, Grace; son, Dustin (Jessica) Eckert; step-children, Keyanna Parrott and Michael Parrott; grandbabies, Langstyn and Colton Eckert; siblings, Brian (Nicole) Eckert and Bret (Erica) Eckert; and nieces and nephews, Caden, Danielle, Austin, and Felecia Eckert.

His parents and sister, Missy (Carla) Eckert, preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21st, at the Church of the Cross. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20th, at the Queen-Lee Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Queen-Lee Chapel to assist with funeral expenses.
