Thomas stopped at 29th and V Streets. Thomas said his vehicle’s plate was missing so he had put another plate on it. He told police he believed his registration for the vehicle was at his house or possibly in the glove box or passenger floorboard. The officer asked him to search for it.

Thomas was asked to step out of the vehicle and if he had any weapons. Thomas lifted his shirt and then pulled a multi-tool from his pocket. He then put it back in his pocket and Officer Brooking asked him to remove it and place it on the vehicle. When he did a baggy of crystal meth fell from his pocket onto the ground. A small metal straw containing crystal meth was also found in his pocket.

Thomas was detained.

When asked if there was anything else illegal in the car, Thomas said there was a 9mm Taurus handgun in the back of the car. Officer Brooking located the weapon on the rear passenger floorboard. Officer Brooking also located a drawstring bag under the radio that contained a baggy with crystal meth residue.

Thomas was transported to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.
