11th annual Dumon McCain Memorial Ride on Saturday, June 1, will benefit Theo Litten

BEDFORD – The 11th annual Dumon McCain Memorial Ride will occur on Saturday, June 1.

The Dumon McCain Memorial Ride is a yearly event to honor the memory and legacy of Dumon McCain, who sadly passed away in 2013 after battling cancer. It also serves as a way to help support other families who are battling cancer, with a new recipient each year.

Theo’s favorite color is yellow, the color of sunshine

This year’s recipient is 5-year-old Theodore Litten. At 11 days old, he was diagnosed with Hirschsprung’s disease. His parents are Tyler and Kristen Litten of Bedford.

Hirschsprung’s disease, also known as congenital aganglionic megacolon, is a birth defect that occurs when nerves in the intestines don’t develop properly. This prevents the muscles in the bowel wall from contracting and relaxing in an organized way, slows the progression of stool through the intestines, and can lead to constipation.

By two weeks old, he had his whole colon and part of his small intestine removed.

In his short five years, Theo has undergone 13 surgeries and is scheduled for another this year at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Kristen is also suffering from Lupus and has developed a heart condition because of the disease.

Theo has two older brothers, Cooper, 11, and Ronan, who is 7.

The ride will begin at the American Legion, 515 X St., Bedford, at 11 a.m., ending at Buffalo Wings and Rings. A minimum donation of $20 is required to participate.
