911 call about erratic driver lands woman in jail on alcohol charges

BEDFORD – An Indianapolis woman was arrested on alcohol charges on March 29th after Bedford Police Department received a 911 call reporting an erratic driver m a Subaru cutting off other motorists.

The caller reported that the driver had pulled into the Arby’s parking lot and was then found traveling north on State Road 37 from 29th Street.

Bedford Police Officer Michael Bell spotted the Subaru driver traveling north on State Road 37 and got behind the vehicle. The driver attempted to merge into the turn lane too soon, crossing the fog line with both passenger-side tires. The driver then turned onto John Williams Boulevard, with Officer Bell following.

While approaching Becky Skillman Way, the Subaru again utilized its right turn signal. However, it passed the right turn onto Becky Skillman and did not turn right until it reached the entrance to
Walmart. The Subaru then reached the Dollar Tree parking lot, where the driver parked the vehicle.

Officer Bell approached the driver, 39-year-old Susan Reardon, and her passenger.

Officer Bell noticed an open alcoholic beverage between the passenger’s leg.

Reardon also smelled of alcohol. She admitted she had been drinking. She failed several field sobriety tests.

She submitted to a preliminary breath test and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.291 percent. She consented to a blood draw and was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital.

She also admitted she had smoked marijuana earlier in the day. She submitted to a SoToxa test and tested positive for marijuana.

SoToxa is a handheld analyzer that uses an oral fluid swab to detect the presence of six kinds of drugs: cocaine, methamphetamine, opiates, cannabis (THC), amphetamine, and benzodiazepines.

Reardon was detained on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI endangerment.
