NASHVILLE – The Brown County Playhouse recently named Dr. Carolyn McCutcheon, Ed.D., as the new interim executive director. McCutcheon has been working with the playhouse since spring of 2023 as a development consultant, and will now oversee the full breadth of day-to-day operations.

“Carolyn has already been highly instrumental in assisting us with grant funding and other development activities, and now we aim to leverage her broader set of skills and experience to help us grow and strengthen how we function across the board,” said Patty Frensemeier, Brown County Playhouse board president.

McCutcheon’s career resume includes serving in leadership positions over operational functions at both Ivy Tech and Goodwill Industries. As part of her role with Ivy Tech, McCutcheon had oversight of the university’s events center in Indianapolis and served as the director of building maintenance with responsibility for maintenance and logistics.

In her role with Goodwill Industries, McCutcheon was responsible for program development and major grant writing, attracting million-dollar grants to the organization for workforce development programs.

“It’s been rewarding working on development and helping the staff and board to realize funding possibilities,” said McCutcheon. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve as interim director and help the board realize the longer-term vision for the playhouse, and lead staff in realizing their full potential in achieving that vision.”

The playhouse sits along the main thoroughfare in the heart of Nashville, a beloved Hoosier town that attracts visitors from not just Indianapolis and central Indiana, but Chicago, Louisville, and Cincinnati as well. Brown County is one among three Indiana counties designated as an Arts Road 46 community due to its rich artistic culture.

The Brown County Playhouse has served as a hub of entertainment for residents and audiences across the state since the summer after World War II. The playhouse is owned and operated by Brown County Playhouse Management, Inc.
