When officers arrived at 10:22 p.m., they found 30-year-old Jordan Reed sitting on the curb near the wrecked Jeep Patriot.

He told police he was driving down the alley and hit a pothole and crashed. He told police he didn’t see any damage and put the vehicle in reverse but it wouldn’t move.

Police say Reed smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred, his eyes were glassy and he was unsteady. He denied he had been drinking but did admit he had used his CBD vape.

He stated to police he was not injured in the crash.

Reed failed several field sobriety tests.

Reed submitted to a preliminary breath test and had a blood-alcohol content of 0.146 percent.

He was detained and transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a medical evaluation and once medically cleared he was transported to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI endangerment, OWI per se.

A resident near the wreck told police he heard the crash in the alleyway and went to investigate. He found Reed slumped over the steering wheel. Reed then climbed out of the vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated and confused. He told police Reed was unable to put the vehicle in reverse. He told Reed to sit down and take it easy and Reed did so.

The vehicle struck a utility pole cable and the cable made contact with the roof of the garage of the male caller. Police estimated damages at $500. Police contacted Duke Energy about the issue.

The vehicle was towed by Jacksons Heavy Haul.
