Ethan Nguyen, Grand Champion of the 50th Annual WBIW Lawrence County Spelling Bee

BEDFORD- The 50th Annual WBIW Spelling Bee concluded last night at the Schafer Auditorium in Bedford. The competition was close, with not a single contestant missing a word in the first round, and after round nine, the top three finishers were determined.

Ethan Nguyen secured the win by correctly spelling “spatula.”

Will Parsley earned the Second Place Finisher honor by spelling “vacuum” correctly as third-place finisher Jace Holt missed the word “sacrifice.”

Champion Ethan Nguyen, 7th Grade, St. Vincent DePaul

Ethan is a 7th grader at St. Vincent DePaul and the son of proud parents Quynh and Hannah Nguyen. He participates in the Science Olympiad and robotics. When asked if he was at all anxious about the Spelling Bee, he replied, “Yeah, I was pretty nervous.” That is a surprising answer, considering how collected he was while spelling. Congratulations Ethan.

Along with his champion’s trophy, Ethan received:
