Woman arrested in Indiana State Police investigates of battery of a child

SPENCER CO. – A Rockport woman was arrested after an Indiana State Police investigation after a child was injured and transported to hospital with serious injuries.

On Tuesday, July 25, 2023, the Spencer County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police Jasper District Criminal Investigations Unit began an investigation of 31-year-old Ariel Ragan of Rockport for battering a juvenile.

The juvenile required immediate medical attention at an Evansville Hospital for severe, life-threatening injuries.

Throughout the nearly seven-month-long investigation, information and evidence were obtained to support charges filed by the Spencer County Prosecutor’s Office. On January 31, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for Ragan.

On Monday, February 5, 2024, Ragan was arrested in Rockport without incident and transported to the Spencer County Jail, where she is being held without bond on charges of domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person less than 14 years old, a Level 3 felony, neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 3 felony and domestic battery, a Level 6 felony.

The arresting officer was Master Trooper Trey Lytton. ISP Detectives Joshua Greer and Patrick Stinson are assisting in the investigation.
