Loogootee Police Dept. reminding residents to register their golf carts

LOOGOOTEE – The Loogootee Police Department reminds residents that golf cart registration has begun.

As a reminder to all Loogootee citizens, golf carts operated on city streets must be registered with the city, per the city’s ordinance.

To register a golf cart or renew one, visit the Loogootee Police Department any day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

First-time golf cart registration is $25, and the renewal fee is $10. Golf carts must be inspected for new registrations and must meet all inspection requirements to be registered for use on city streets. John Deere Gators and similar utility vehicles also qualify for use and registration on city streets as long as they pass the required inspection.

The inspection checklist includes:

  1. Headlights and taillights
  2. Seat belts
  3. SMV sign
  4. Rearview mirror
  5. Flashing red or amber light (red must only be visible from rear and side)
  6. Proof of Insurance
