Carolyn “Sue” Goins, 81, of Mitchell, passed away on February 1, 2024, at I.U. Health
Bloomington Hospital. Born on March 31, 1942, she was the daughter of Gordon and Alice
(Thompson) Blackburn. She married Barney Goins on June 2, 1963, and he passed away on
February 14, 2023.
Sue graduated from Bedford North Lawrence High School in 1975, and she also attended Oolitic
High School. She retired from G.E. Sue and attended Oolitic Methodist Church. She was a slot
machine pro, an avid bingo player, and loved to travel. She was very proud of her grandchildren and
loved her family dearly.
Sue is survived by her three daughters, Debra Goins, Teresa Goins, and Shannon (Jim) Roach;
seven grandchildren, Lindsay (Michael) Davis, Whitney Haase, Tasheena (Ryan) Sinclair, Jacob
Roach, Hiley Roach, Zac Cooper, and Landon Cooper; 10 great-grandchildren, Emma, Haylee,
Julian, Blake, Gavin, Ellie, Maya, Sophia, Wesley, and Isaac; brother, Larry Blackburn; three
sisters, Marilyn Peters, Stella Trowbridge, and Betty Jo Blackburn; sister-in-law, Margaret
Blackburn; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Ronnie Blackburn, and one sister,
Brenda Magnus.
A funeral service for Sue will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at the Ferguson-
Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes in Bedford. Burial will follow at Green
Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 10:00 am to the service time on Tuesday, also at the
Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
