Firefighters battle fatal house fire in Paragon

PARAGON – One person is dead, and another suffered smoke inhalation after a fire destroyed a home in Morgan County.

At 8:20 a.m. on Sunday, Morgan County Public Safety received a call about a residence fire with possible entrapment in the 200 block of Arthur Road, southwest of Paragon.

Martinsville Fire Department and Paragon Volunteer Fire Company arrived to find a log cabin-type home engulfed in flames. The home had partially collapsed into the basement.

The fire was brought under control within two hours. Another occupant who was living at that location was transported by Morgan County EMS to a local area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Sadly, after the fire was extinguished, fire investigators from MFD, Washington Twp., and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office along with Detectives from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office located a deceased person, at that time the Morgan County Coroner’s office was notified.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and there is no additional information available at this time.
