INDIANA – In 2023, the Indiana Nongame Wildlife Fund supported wildlife wins for many rare and endangered species. From helping hellbenders in the Blue River to discovering the rare banded pygmy sunfish in a new habitat in Posey County–these wins have enhanced the story of conservation throughout the state.

Your contributions have played a crucial role in the Department of Natural Resources efforts, and officials are immensely grateful for your commitment to preserving rare and endangered species in Indiana.

Indiana Nongame Wildlife Fund invites you to watch our year-end video highlighting the work done to safeguard Indiana’s most unique species for future generations.

As we look forward to 2024, we are excited about the potential for even greater achievements – but we can only reach these goals with your continued support. For every $50 donated, fish and wildlife will benefit from an additional $93 in federal funds. Together, we can ensure Indiana’s rare and endangered critters survive and thrive in their natural habitats.

Managing Rare and Endangered Wildlife in Indiana

Both state and federal dollars support the conservation of rare and endangered wildlife in Indiana. The State Wildlife Grant program, authorized by Congress in 2000, provides federal funding for programs to benefit fish and wildlife species before they become threatened or endangered. These funds are made available as grants to eligible states based on their population and land area. The Nongame Wildlife Fund, established by the Indiana General Assembly in 1982, is dedicated to rare and endangered wildlife conservation in Indiana.
