Lawrence County Workforce Coalition Continues Free Skills Training

BEDFORD – Those unemployed or underemployed are invited to enhance their job skills by participating in a three-week class that will teach welding, machining, construction, and other skills during the 15th Introduction to Local Jobs and Skills.

Instruction will begin on January 22 at the North Lawrence Career Center.

The class meets Monday-Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the North Lawrence Career Center. Each participant who completes the program will receive a certificate of completion and a $250 stipend.

The program was developed by the Lawrence County Workforce Coalition, an arm of the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council, in 2020 to address a shortage of skilled workers and establish an adult education system in the county. The Smithville Charitable Foundation sponsors the event. So far, 162 adults have completed the program.
