Indiana State Police investigate the death of four in Madison

MADISON – Detectives with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post are conducting a death investigation after the bodies of four individuals were found inside a burning residence on Telegraph Hill Road, just outside of Madison in rural Jefferson County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that first responders responded to an address in the 1600 block of East Telegraph Hill Road shortly after 4:00 pm on Tuesday, December 12. Emergency personnel arrived at the residence and found the home in flames.

Upon entering the residence, fire department personnel located the bodies of four individuals in the residence.  Despite life-saving measures, all four of the individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The fire was extinguished, and investigators were called to the scene. 

At this time, the identities of the deceased individuals are not being released until the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office can make proper identification.  Autopsies are scheduled to be performed in Hamilton County, Ohio, to determine the cause and manner of death. 

The Indiana State Police is working with the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office, and Jefferson County Coroner’s Office to investigate this incident.
