GM to reimburse Cadillac Escalade buyers for missing illuminated liftgate sill plate

INDIANA – After accidentally charging owners for a feature that was never included, General Motors has released a Customer Satisfaction Program for those who bought certain 2023 Cadillac Escalade and 2023 Cadillac Escalade ESV units.

Select 2023 Escalade and Escalade ESV owners were wrongfully charged for the LPO or dealer-installed illuminated liftgate sill plate (RPO code 5RU) option. Normally, this feature was optional on all trim levels for an additional $495 or included in the $1,095 Illumination Package, LPO (RPO code RGL) on Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport trim levels.

This Illumination Package, LPO included the following (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):

  • Cadillac crest puddle lamps, LPO (S3I)
  • Front and rear illuminated door sill plates, LPO (S0M)
  • Illuminated liftgate sill plate, LPO (5RU)

As for the reason behind this Customer Satisfaction Program, the illuminated liftgate sill plate became unavailable to order as of early April 2023 production through the end of the 2023 model year. Before that, buyers who optioned the RGL feature may have gotten the illuminated emblem and door sill plates, but not the illuminated liftgate sill plate.

As such, General Motors will reimburse $495 for customers in the United States, while the reimbursement for Canadian customers will amount to $615. Additionally, this program will be in effect until January 2026.
