Former Mitchell resident recognized for 25 years of service with ISP

PENDELTON – Four Pendleton District Troopers have been recognized for 25 years of service with the Indiana State Police. 

Master Trooper Shawn Cosgrove, Master Trooper Chris Yeend, Master Trooper Paul Harrison, and Sergeant Brian Thomas all graduated from the 56th Indiana State Police Academy on December 13, 1998.  A small ceremony was held at the post to commemorate their milestone.

Master Trooper Shawn Cosgrove

Master Trooper Shawn Cosgrove is a 1991 graduate of Mitchell High School. Cosgrove continued his education at Ball State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. After graduating from the Indiana State Police Academy in 1998, Cosgrove was assigned to the Lowell District and patrolled Starke and Pulaski counties. In 2000, Cosgrove was transferred to the Redkey District and assigned to Delaware County. Later in his career, the Indiana State Police selected Cosgrove as a K-9 handler. In 2010, when ISP merged some of its districts, Trooper Cosgrove transferred from Redkey to the Pendleton District. The following year, Cosgrove was awarded the Pendleton District Trooper of the Year. In 2016, he was promoted to First Sergeant over Logistics. In 2020, Cosgrove chose to return to patrol duties in Delaware County and the surrounding area. 

Master Trooper Chris Yeend

Master Trooper Chris Yeend is a 1994 graduate of Waldron High School. Yeend continued his education at Ball State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. After graduating from the Indiana State Police Academy in 1998, his ISP career started in the Versailles District, where he patrolled Decatur County. In 2001, Yeend transferred to the Connersville District, where he patrolled Franklin and Rush Counties. Yeend served as a detective from 2003 until 2008. In 2008, Yeend received a Meritorious Service Award for arrests made in his investigation into a burglary ring in Rush County. In 2010, when the Indiana State Police consolidated districts, Trooper Yeend was re-assigned to the Pendleton District. In 2010, Trooper Yeend received another Meritorious Service Award for his role in the Connersville Drug Task Force during the Heroin outbreak.

Master Trooper Paul Harrison

Master Trooper Paul Harrison is a 1990 graduate of Lincoln High School. After high school, he continued his education at Indiana State University. In 1998, after graduating from the Indiana State Police Academy, Harrison was assigned to the Connersville District. During his time at the Connersville District, Harrison patrolled Wayne County. In 2010, the Indiana State Police merged districts; Trooper Harrison was transferred to the Pendleton District, where he now patrols Wayne and surrounding counties.  

Sgt. Brian Thomas

Sergeant Brian Thomas is a 1989 graduate of Tri Jr./Sr. High School and served in the United States Army for six years. Thomas continued his education at Vincennes University and received an Associate of Science in Law Enforcement. Before joining the Indiana State Police, Thomas served three years as a New Castle Police Officer. After graduating from the Indiana State Police Academy, he began his career at the Connersville District, where he patrolled Henry County. In 2006, Thomas was selected for the Indiana State Police SWAT team and served as a sniper. In December 2021, Thomas was promoted to Squad Sergeant and assigned to the Pendleton District.
