I-69 Finish Line Update

INDIANA – Starting Friday evening, motorists should be aware of changing traffic patterns on the city’s southwest side as I-69 Finish Line crews shift traffic onto new pavement.

Eastbound I-465 will be reduced to one lane between I-70 and US 31 beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15. The following ramps will also close for the weekend starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, and will reopen ahead of the morning commute on Monday, Dec. 18:I-70 EB/WB to I-465 SB/EB State Road 67 (Kentucky Avenue) to/from I-465 EB Mann Road to I-465 EB S.R. 37 (Harding Street) to/from I-465 EBI-465 WB to US 31 NB (East St.)

During the weekend restrictions, the speed limit will remain at 45 miles per hour. Once the traffic shift is complete on Monday, Dec. 18, motorists will use new, permanent pavement.

INDOT encourages motorists to slow down, pay attention to changing conditions, and avoid distractions. All three westbound lanes will remain open throughout the weekend.

Increased congestion is expected while restrictions are in place. Drivers are encouraged to plan accordingly and find alternate routes. You can view INDOT’s latest maps of the I-465 eastbound lane and ramp restrictions on the INDOT project documents page.

Existing access from northbound State Road 37 at Edgewood Avenue will permanently close and Harding Street will be restricted to single lanes north and south of the I-465 interchange beginning Monday, Dec. 15. Harding Street restrictions will be in place for much of 2024 to allow crews to work on the I-465 bridge overhead.

Construction crews successfully made the traffic switch last Wednesday with one lane both east and westbound and the new northbound I-69/S.R. 37 to Southport Road ramp is now open to traffic

A single-lane restriction on northbound S.R. 37 from S.R. 144 to Olive Branch Rd. continues through the end of the year for median work, guardrail, and cable barrier installation.

The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
