Police look for wanted woman but find nearly a pound of meth instead

MITCHELL – Two people were arrested after police found almost a pound of meth.

On Saturday, December 2, around 1:00 a.m. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies Kenton Carter, Andrew Tillett, Brenten Trueblood, and Clifford Pruett, and Mitchell Police Department officers Josh Turner and Izabella Foster went to a residence in the 900 block of Newby Street in Mitchell in an attempt to locate a wanted female.

When officers arrived they were met by a male occupant who gave officers consent to look for the female inside the home.

The wanted female was not there but officers did encounter 39-year-old Demetrious Coleman and 39-year-old Leslie Frazier, both of Mitchell.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day, officers recently obtained information that Coleman and Frazier were involved in dealing large amounts of methamphetamine in and around Lawrence County.

As officers walked through the house, they detected the odor of marijuana and also observed marijuana in plain view.

Officer Carter applied for and obtained a search warrant for the residence. The search warrant was issued by Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline.

While executing the search warrant officers found 418 grams of meth, which is just shy of a pound, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, baggies, digital scales, a loaded .223 AR-15 style rifle, and a loaded 9mm handgun.

Coleman was arrested on charges of possession of meth over 10 grams with the intent to deal, a Level 2 felony, possession of meth over 28 grams, a Level 3 felony, and two counts of a serious violent felon in possession of a firearm, a Level 4 felony.

Fraizer is facing a charge of possession of meth over 10 grams with the intent to deal, a Level 2 felony, and possession of meth over 28 grams.

Both were incarcerated in the Lawrence County Jail.

Sheriff Greg Day praised the work of investigating officers.

“Removing almost a pound of meth from our community is outstanding work by all involved,’ he said. “I greatly appreciate the teamwork between Sheriff’s deputies and Mitchell Police officers which led to these arrests. We will continue our efforts to hold accountable those who deal these drugs to our friends, family, and neighbors.”
