Thelma Jane Herrington, 94 of Orleans, passed away at 5:25 a.m. on November 20, 2023, at Paoli Health and Living Community.
She was born June 26, 1929, in Charleston, Ill, the daughter of Vern and Jessie (Galbreath) Stewart. She married Donald E. Herrington and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2003.
She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Orleans. She was a homemaker for many years and later worked as a cook in a school cafeteria in Indianapolis.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda K. Gerkin (Lee) of Orleans; one son, Bryan Herrington (Jennifer) of Santa Maria, California; five grandchildren, Jay (Kirbee) Gerkin, Stewart (Morgan) Gerkin, Heidi Brett) Graskewitz, Kyle, and Mitchell Herrington; seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Marion Stewart; and four sisters, Dorothy Sweetman, Martha Jones, Rose Pearcy, and Esther Stewart.
The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans with Pastor Thomas Bostic officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Orleans. Friends are invited to visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m.
