Obituary: Donald L. Fleetwood

January 31, 1936 – November 15, 2023

Donald L. Fleetwood, 87, of Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.

Don worked at a sawmill and did logging for more than 30 years.  He also worked at the Lawrence County Highway Department, retiring after 22 years of service. 

Don loved his family, and he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He also enjoyed raising and riding mules.

Born on January 31, 1936, in Monroe County, he was the son of Clone and Myrtle (Fleetwood) Fleetwood, both of whom preceded him in death.  In March of 1955, in Jackson County, he married Janet S. Allen, and she preceded him in death on August 2, 2017.

Survivors include two sons:  Tim (Kristie) Fleetwood of Bedford; and Tony (Dana George) Fleetwood of Bedford; one daughter, Lisa Fleetwood of Bedford; four grandchildren:  Brandi (Toby) Webb, Heather (Paul) Bamford, Jordan (Whitney) Fleetwood, and Jonathon (Emilee) Fleetwood; five great-grandchildren:  Brittani Baker, Traven (Brandalon) Webb, Hudson Fleetwood, Lenny Fleetwood, and Baby Fleetwood; four great-great-grandchildren:  Emberlynn Baker, Berklee Baker, Brykten Webb, and Bayler  Webb; daughter-in-law, Lynn Fleetwood of Heltonville; one brother, Larry (Debbie) Fleetwood of Columbus; three sisters: Lorietta Fern (Jack) Steele of Spencer, Ruth Parker of Brownstown, and Debbie (David) Hamilton of Brownstown; and several nieces and nephews.

Don was also preceded in death by one son, Randall Fleetwood; two brothers: Arnold “Francis” Fleetwood and Ray Fleetwood; two sisters: Jean Hilderbrand and Kaye Mullins; sister-in-law, Eva Fleetwood; four brothers-in-law: Wally Mullins, Rodney Hilderbrand, Larry Parker, and Kevin Otte; and a great-great-granddaughter, Eleanor Webb.

A private family graveside service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Gilgal Cemetery, Heltonville, with Pastor John Wisely officiating.

Memorials may be given in Donald’s memory to IU Health Hospice House in Bloomington.
