Teen arrested for stealing Smirnoff

BEDFORD – A Bedford teen was arrested on a warrant afters stealing Smirnoff from Walmart.

On October 12, 2023, Bedford Police officers responded to Walmart after a report of a theft.

The theft occurred on October 11th and was captured on security video. The asset protection investigator told police that on Oct. 11th at 5:53 p.m. a male was in the frozen food section and cut through the aisles to the liquor department where he was captured on video grabbing a bottle of Smirnoff and placing it in his sweatpants. The male then left that department and exited the store. The total amount of theft was $9.98 before tax.

Hayden McKinney

On October 16, 2023, Bedford Police detectives went to a home in the 1000 block of Norton Lane to speak to 18-year-old Hayden McKinney. He admitted he had stolen the alcohol. He also admitted to stealing other alcoholic beverages a few weeks prior.

McKinney told police he was sorry. His father asked if Walmart would accept payment for the stolen merchandise but the store refused. McKinney was issued a no-trespass order from the store. The case will be forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office for review and a warrant was issued for McKinney’s arrest on charges of theft and minor in possession of an alcoholic beverage.
