OOLITIC – On Friday, November 10th at Dollens Elementary the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders put on a Veteran’s Day program directed by the music teacher, Mrs. Tammy Spradlin.
The whole school body, family, friends, veterans, and the community were invited to attend the performance.
The program started with Mr. Austin Malone, the principal, welcoming the audience. George Wagoner, the student advisory president, followed by leading everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. The 4th, 5th, and 6th graders then sang the “Star Spangled Banner”.
Students Chase Ritter and Anna Burrus spoke along with Wagoner. They spoke about Veteran’s Day, the songs the students would be singing, and thanked all the veterans who attended.
The students sang the songs of the “Armed Forces” requesting the veterans to stand when they heard their branch. The 4th graders sang “You’re a Grand Old Flag” with a verse in the middle where they played the kazoos.
Then the 4th and 5th graders sang “Yankee Doodle” together.
Lastly, the 6th graders played “Stars and Stripes” on the bucket drums. The final song “God Bless America” was sung by all the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. The program concluded by thanking all veterans for their service.
