INDIANA – The Beaver Moon reaches peak illumination in the morning hours of Monday, November 27, at 4:16 A.M. EST. It will be very close to full the night before, so plan to look for it starting on Sunday, November 26, just after sunset.
It’s called the Beaver Moon because it is the time of year when beavers begin to take shelter in their lodges, having laid up sufficient food stores for the long winter ahead.
During the fur trade in North America, it was also the season to trap beavers for their thick, winter-ready pelts.
