2023 Super Treat Night draws thousands

BEDFORD – Last night’s Super Treat Night, a FREE community event sponsored by WTIU and hosted by WQRK 105.5 and LiteFM 102.5 drew upwards of 2000 trick-or-treaters from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The crowd winds through the snake-like queue line.

Before the doors even opened to the gym at 6 p.m., there was a line snaking through Kari’s Gym and out to the sidewalk.

The line led all the way outside before the event even began.

The many costumed men, women, and children dressed as anything from witches and the Scream Franchise’s Ghostface to more unique characters like the Lorax, Among Us crewmates, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, a frog, and Barney the dinosaur.

Trick-or-treaters receive free popcorn from the popcorn booth.

The event was held at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County in the Limestone building. Due to renovations at the facility, this year’s event was held entirely in the larger gym, but it didn’t impede the event, and those in line got to escape the outdoor chill while they waited by keeping warm inside.

Super Treat Night Sponsors include:

Rowyn Troxell, 10 years, as Circus Baby from Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Sponsors each had a booth at Super Treat Night, passing out candy and Halloween spirit to anyone who came through.

Part of the WBIW, WQRK, and LiteFM team Sean Duncan and Jeremy Newbold.

WQRK and Lite FM hosted the event and kept the music jamming the entire night, spearheading set-up and clean-up. The station’s workers were also involved in keeping the refreshments flowing for the many trick-or-treaters throughout the night.

While too tall to come inside the gym, Will Silcott’s Pyramid Head from Silent Hill patrolled outside the entry, dragging his prop weapon across the ground to make an eerie scraping sound.

Pyramid Head was quite the sensation outside the doors as trick-or-treaters arrived. Some were a bit shy of the towering entity, while others got closer to see the costume in more detail and exclaim praise to its wearer.

Sponsors and booths handed out candy and treats of all sorts for a full three hours, and if you missed the free goodies, make sure you’re ready to go for next year.

Unless you wanted one of Boady’s lemon shake ups, hot cocoa or cider, everything was FREE and inside to keep you nice and warm.

Olivia Bridges, 9 years old, Elna Childers, 9 years old, and her twin Ezmeigh Childers.

Nine-year-old Elna was dedicated to her role as the Lorax, proclaiming “I speak for the trees!” with much gusto.

Her twin Ezmeigh was excited to be the only frog costume that night, with her fun blow-up outfit.

Brittany Moore stands with Waylon Moore as Barney, 11-year-old cowboy Zadyn Taylor, Mistie Taylor and Lexi Greer.

Fun lights, decor, and music were only some of the night’s highlights. Spooky skeletons and bats welcomed you to an evening of free fun and the delightful chance to peruse a wide variety of costume choices.
