The Role of Fire in Indiana – Parks October program

BEDFORD – The October Park Program will be one of interest to those interested in the history of the evolution of Indiana’s vegetation and animal species, as well as to those who currently are managing forests or fields in the area. This program on the Role of Fire in Indiana discusses how fire has been used historically as well as how it can be used today. It will be held at the Otis Park Bath House at 6 pm on Tuesday, October 24.

Dan McGuckin, a forester from Habitat Solutions, will present the program on how fire has helped create the landscapes we have today and influenced what species we now have dominating our southern Indiana forests and fields. Fire has long been a tool that people have used to manipulate the land around them and still has relevance today. For local landowners with forests or fields, Dan can answer questions on how they might use fire on their land to reach different objectives.

He’ll also explain the risks of burning on your own land and how people can get help to limit those risks.

Please RSVP for the program by October 23 by calling 812-275-5692 or emailing gdorsett@bedford.in.us.
