Dollens 6th grade explores Indiana Motor Speedway Museum

LAWRENCE CO. – The 6th grade class at Dollens Elementary went on a field trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) and Museum on Wednesday, October 18th. This was a full day of experiences for these 6th graders.

When the 6th graders arrived at IMS, they went to the museum first. There they worked on a scavenger hunt around the museum finding answers to help them learn about the history of IMS. Race cars, trophies, and artifacts were some of the things the students could view and learn about throughout the museum. There was even a spot where you could get in a racecar and take a selfie.

After the museum, the class took a tour around the track where the students were transported by buses.  A recording played as the bus traveled around the track  giving the student facts about the grounds and history of IMS. The bus stopped to let all of the kids out on the front straightaway at the start and finish line. Here they had the opportunity to kiss the bricks. After the tour, the students went to the stands to eat their lunch. When lunch was over, the kids boarded the bus to go back to Oolitic.

This was a wonderful opportunity for these students to go to IMS.
