Barbara is a Madison County native and attended Pendleton Heights High School graduating in 1975.  After high school, Barbara continued her education by attending the International Business College in Fort Wayne in the area of Business Administration and Accounting.

On May 14, 2001, She began her career with the Indiana State Police as a dispatcher at the Pendleton District and continued to work there until 2009 when the Indiana State Police consolidated several dispatch centers into a regional dispatch operation in Indianapolis.  Barbara continued to dispatch at the Area Five Regional Dispatch Center for another three years.

In 2012, Barbara transfered to the Indiana State Police Field Support Services where she served as an administrative assistant for the next seven years.  Barbara always wanted to return back to Pendleton and in 2019 she took a position as a Clerical Assistant IV to the Criminal Investigative Division where she remained until her retirement.

When asked about her career with the Indiana State Police, Barbara said, “This has been one of the greatest adventures I have ever taken.  I will miss my time as a dispatcher, especially the troopers on the road, however, I really enjoyed my job as an administrative assistant because it was the area I was interested in and went to school to prepare for my career.”

When asked about her plans, Barbara stated, “I plan to spend time with my family, my husband Steven Harney (INDOT), my three children (Nathan, Justin, and Rebecka), and my four grandchildren.”  Barbara also plans to help out Madison County Emergency Managment Agency as a part-time dispatcher.

On behalf of the Pendleton District, we would like to sincerely thank Babs for the 22 years of dedicated service and for keeping the troopers safe on the roadway.
