One life taken, two injured in early morning crash

BLOOMINGTON – A life was taken and two passengers were injured when a vehicle struck a utility pole in the 3000 block of East 10th Street in Bloomington this morning.

The names of those involved have not been released pending notification of relatives.

According to Bloomington Police, when officers arrived on the scene at 2:49 a.m. they found a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox on its side in the eastbound lane. The SUV had struck and cut in half a utility police near the intersection of 10th Street and Smith Road.

Two male passengers ages 22 and 21 were hurt and taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

The 21-year-old female driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

All three had to be freed from the wreckage by Bloomington Fire Department firefighters.

Power was out in the area in the hours after the crash. The road was closed while officials reconstructed the accident.
