Springville child home after being hit by a vehicle

SPRINGVILLE – A child was injured in a private driveway on Sunday, October 1, at 1473 Harrodsburg Road.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies Christopher Griggs and Michael Williams responded at 8:25 p.m.

According to police, 40-year-old Lake Kimmel, who lived at the home was moving his 2024 Honda Odyssey when the accident happened. Also outside at the time, unknown to Kimmel was his child.

According to police Kimmel was moving the car a short distance and when he exited the vehicle he walked around the passenger side of the vehicle and found the child pinned under the vehicle between the front passenger side tire and the wheel well.

Kimmel rushed to retrieve a jack and lifted the vehicle off the child. The child suffered possible internal injuries and was rushed by ambulance to IU Bloomington Hospital. The child was then flown by Air Evac medical helicopter to Riley Children’s Hospital for treatment. She has since been released from the hospital.

Kimmel told police the child had followed the family’s dog outside and he did not see her.

Kimmel submitted to a blood draw which is standard procedure in this type of accident. That test was negative for drugs or alcohol.
