Orleans police: Thieves targeting unlocked vehicles

ORLEANS – In the early morning hours of Sunday. October 1, a person or persons entered several

unlocked cars in an area between West Jackson and West Monroe Streets.

Orleans Town Marshal Richard Dixon

“We believe this occurred after midnight and before 5 a.m.,” said Orleans Town Marshal Richard Dixon. “The common denominator in all these thefts was the cars were not locked. There was no forced entry in any of the vehicles entered.”

The very best way to protect your property is to always lock your vehicle when you park it. It’s important not to leave any valuable items in plain view inside your vehicle as well. Thieves are looking for targets of opportunity so please secure your vehicles after you exit.

“The Orleans Police Department is actively investigating this incident and asks anyone with any knowledge of these thefts to contact us,” added Marshal Dixon. “Also anyone with outdoor cameras please check those and let us know if see any movement during the night. By being vigilant and working together we can stop this illegal activity.”
