Prayer vigil for the death of Mitchell toddlers held

MITCHELL – A prayer vigil was held Wednesday in Mitchell. Alyssa Robbins, of Mitchell, organized the vigil at Ruffcut Ministries on West Warren Street.

“The vigil if for the two innocent angels whose lives were tragically taken far too soon,” Robbins posted.

According to Indiana State Police, 33-year-old Brittany Medina was arrested for the deaths of her one-year-old daughter Maddy, and three-year-old son Jackson in Mitchell on Tuesday.

“They were just precious, precious angels,” described grandmother Denise McCormick to Fox News who was at the scene. “They were just babies. The little one-year-old had a beautiful smile on her face all the time. She was never angry. They were babies.”

McCormick said Medina suffers from mental illness and the family needs prayers.

Police arrested Medina at her home at 1211 West Brook Street on Tuesday afternoon. According to Indiana State Police, the two children were found dead inside the home. Medina is currently being held in the Lawrence County jail without bond. 

Lawrence County Prosecutor Sam Apr said more information will be released on Thursday.
