Woman’s lies land her behind bars

BEDFORD – Early Wednesday morning, around 2:15 a.m. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy Andrew Tillett conducted a traffic stop on Old State Road 37, near Guthrie Road.

The female driver provided someone else’s driver’s license and gave multiple false statements about her true identity. She was eventually identified as 33-year-old Sheena Steigmeyer, of Terre Haute. The deputy then learned Steigmeyer was driving on a suspended driver’s license.

Oolitic Marshal James Harrington arrived on the scene to assist and deployed his canine Deny Joe, who gave a positive alert on the vehicle.

Steigmeyer was found to possess methamphetamine and seven different prescription medications she did not have prescriptions for.

Steigmeyer was arrested on charges of identity deception, providing a false identity statement, Possession of meth, and possession of legend drugs.
