When firefighters arrived they found the garage engulfed in flames and the roof had collapsed down on the car. The 20-foot by 20-foot garage is owned by Barbara Bland. The garage was destroyed.

The road was closed to allow firefighters to extinguish the blaze. Oolitic Marshal’s officers assisted fire crews with traffic control at the scene.

According to Chief Bobby Brown, the men were working on a vehicle in the garage. They were fixing the fuel pump. One of the men tried to activate the fuel pump by crossing wires. The wires sparked and ignited the fire. Chief Brown assumed fuel continued to pump from the fuel pump and helped fuel the fire.

Lawrence County Fire Territory Ambulance personnel treated the men at the scene. Both men suffered very minor burns, according to Chief Bob Brown.
