Teen arrested after police find marijuana, THC cartridges and $10,184 in cash

BEDFORD – A Springville teen was arrested Saturday, September 23 on drug and money laundering charges after police stopped his vehicle for speeding on Old State Road 37.

A Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy was parked at the Marshall Township Transfer Station when he clocked a 2016 orange Ford Mustang traveling north at 118 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone.

The driver stopped on Old State Road 37, just south of Washboard Road.

The driver 19-year-old Cole Chambers was ordered out of the vehicle. The officer noticed while he was patting Chambers down he smelled of marijuana and could smell the odor of marijuana in the vehicle. There was a 20-year-old male passenger in the vehicle.

Chambers told the officers he and his passenger were on their way home for a wedding and he was attempting to get home to go to bed because he had to work in the morning. The passenger also told the officer they were returning from a wedding and going to Chamber’s house. He said Chambers was showing off how fast his car could go.

The officer told Chambers it was dangerous to be driving that fast. The officer then asked where the marijuana was in the vehicle.

Chambers told the officer the marijuana was in a black bag in the passenger seat. He then admitted there was a Micro Draco gun in the vehicle. In the black bag police found two baggies that contained 50 grams of marijuana. There was also a gray heating gun and a marijuana cigarette was found in the middle console. The loaded Micro Draco was found behind the driver-side seat and a black Springfield Armory XD5 between the driver’s seat and the middle console. Officers also found several open and unopened alcoholic beverage containers. A bottle containing Dicyclomine Hydrochloride pills was found in the middle console.

Police also found $164 in cash and a plastic baggie containing cannabis-infused gummies, a THC vape cartridge, and a round container with several Levetiracetam pills.

In the trunk, police found a multi-colored box of Fryd Mucho Mango that box contained 10 boxes of 80 sealed 1-gram THC cartridges, a black scale. There were also multiple empty alcoholic beverage containers.

Chamber was detained after admitting the items were his and for his personal use. The passenger was released from the scene.

While searching the vehicle police found a baseball card box that contained $9,020 in cash. Cole said the money was to pay his taxes. In his pocket, police found $1,000 in cash.

Chambers was detained on charges of dealing and possession of marijuana and hashish oil, possession of a legend drug, illegal consumption, possession of drug paraphernalia, money laundering, reckless driving, and illegal consumption, and a minor in possession of an alcoholic beverage.

The money, a total of $10,184 was seized due to Chambers being charged with dealing.

At the jail, Chambers performed a breathalyzer test and blew a 0.063.
