Bloomington resident killed in accident

BLOOMINGTON – On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at 12:12 p.m., the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded to North Curry Pike and West Vernal Pike for a two-vehicle accident with injury.

Upon arrival Deputies located two single-occupant vehicles. They located an 81-year-old individual from Bloomington who was driving a Honda CRV. The other driver, a 24-year-old individual from Springville was driving a Chevy Silverado.

According to witnesses, the driver of the Chevy Silverado was traveling south south on Curry Pike when
they disregarded the traffic signal and collided with the Honda CRV that was turning west onto Vernal
Pike from Curry Pike.

The driver of the Honda CRV died from their injuries as a result of this crash at IU Health Bloomington
Hospital.

The crash is still under investigation at this time and the names of the drivers have not been released.

Indiana State Police Accident Reconstructionist was requested to assist with the investigation. The Monroe County Coroner’s Office is working with the families involved in this accident.

Also assisting at the scene were Monroe Fire Protection District and IU LifeLine ambulance.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office sends its condolences to all the families and community members
affected by this tragedy.
