Motorcyclist dies after striking a deer

WASHINGTON CO. – On Friday, September 22, at approximately 7:55 p.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Department deputies and first responders rushed to the area of Borden Road just south of Vincennes Trail after a report of a motorcycle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a black 2005 Honda motorcycle on the east side of the roadway in a ditch, and the male driver on the west side of the road.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the Honda, driven by 47-year-old James Stivers, of Salem, was traveling south on Borden Road when he impacted a deer in the roadway. Stivers was ejected off the motorcycle and landed on the west side of the road.

Stivers was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Salem by Washington County EMS where he later died from his injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by Deputy Maxwell Mitchell, who was assisted by Sgt. Matthew Hein, and Deputy Dustin Pridemore.
