Obituary: Larry E. Will

Octorber 15, 1942 – September 4, 2023

Larry E. Will, 80, of Bedford, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2023, at Cedar Creek of Bedford.

Born October 15, 1942, in Evansville, Indiana, he was the son of Edwin and Frances (Patry) Will. As a loving father, he provided a strong example and foundation for his boys to follow.

His love of golf was a cornerstone of outside interests creating many long-lasting friendships. Larry graduated from Memorial High School in 1961, and the University of Evansville with a B.A in Industrial Engineering in 1965. He completed his MBA at Indiana University in 1968. He started his career at NSWC Crane in 1965 and retired in 2002 as a Program Manager.

After retirement, he was a volunteer CASA for Lawrence County for several years. In 2015 he established the non-profit group Lawrence County Grass Roots to assist in local property rejuvenation.

Larry enjoyed traveling with his family, especially winter ski trips with his sons. His interest in golf rubbed off on his sons and the tradition continued with annual family golf championships. He enjoyed being outdoors and kept his yard well-manicured. He was a lover of dogs and always had at least one dog by his side, sometimes 3 or 4. He was known to slip a few bites of dinner to those standing in wait.

He was an avid IU sports fan in both good and bad times. We now have an IU fan in heaven who can hopefully provide some good influence on IU sports teams.

Larry is survived by the love of his life, Connie Johnson Will, and they celebrated their 30th anniversary on July 31, 2023. They enjoyed travel, golf, and especially time spent with family. He is also survived by two sons Keith (wife Jena) Will of Greensboro, GA, and their children Alex (wife Sarah) Will, Atlanta, GA, and Carson Will of Atlanta; Kevin (wife Susan) Will of Cumming, GA, and their children Christian Will, Chicago, IL, and Garrett Will, Cumming, GA. Two sisters, Sr. Jane Will, OSB of Ferdinand, IN, and Judy Ritter of
Indianapolis; three brothers: Tom (wife Barbara) Will of Copley, OH, Randy Will of Evansville, and Ted (wife Elaine) Will of Madisonville, KY.; nine nephews and one niece.

Also surviving are two step-children: Debbie Kerr of Bedford, and Steve (wife Erin) Johnson of Greenwood, IN; five step-grandchildren include Kristina Rowe of Boston, MA, Megan (husband Tanner) Tow of Bedford, Lea Kerr, Bedford, Kearstyn and Travis Carpenter of Greenwood; also step-great-grandchildren Lennon and Blake Tow.

He was preceded in death by both parents, his sister Mary Sue Farthing, and brother-in-law Jack Farthing.

Special thanks to Cedar Creek of Bedford (Bliss Place) for their compassionate care over the past seven months.

Memorial gifts can be made in Larry’s memory to the White River Humane Society or Fayetteville Lions Club.

Larry will be cremated and laid to rest at Old Union Christian Church Cemetary, Bedford. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
