Dispute at Mitchell City Park leads to arrest

MITCHELL – A 22-year-old was arrested after Mitchell Police officers responded to Mitchell City Park on Monday, August 28th following a report of a battery.

When police arrived at 6:29 p.m., they made contact with a male who was sitting at a picnic table next to the park. He told police he had been punched in the head by a man named Zach.

Police say the man had suffered a swollen lip.

Mitchell Fire Department first responder arrived on the scene and treated the male. The man also suffered a small abrasion on the top of his head.

The male told police that he and his girlfriend had gone to the park to meet with another female and a man named Zack. The two males then got into a verbal confrontation and he stood up to walk away when Zack approached the male from behind and began repeatedly hitting him.

The male signed a battery affidavit.

Police found 22-year-old Zachary Carlton in the 900 block of West Main Street and he was detained after admitting his wrongdoing.

Carlton was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of battery causing bodily injury
