Bloomington women arrested in fake pill investigation

BARTHOLOMEW CO. – An investigation led by Bartholomew County’s Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team recovered more than 200 counterfeit Oxycodone pills and led to the arrest of two Bloomington women.

Torien Thornton, 19, of Bloomington, was arrested Monday for her alleged role as a distributor of counterfeit Oxycodone pills that may have also been laced with fentanyl. She had her child in the car when she was caught along with the illegal narcotics.

Investigators seized more than 200 counterfeit pills over several days in the investigation.

The investigation into Thornton began when police became aware of her alleged intention to begin distributing narcotics in Bartholomew County.

Thornton is facing felony charges of dealing narcotics and neglect of a dependent. The Indiana Department of Child Services took the child into care.

A passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Aireana Brandon, of Bloomington, was arrested on a charge of possessing marijuana.

Both women were taken into custody at the Brown County Jail.

The Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team is a unit comprised of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Police Department, and the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office. The unit investigates the manufacturing and large-scale distribution of narcotics in Bartholomew County and any other location that may have an impact on Bartholomew County.
