IU Health Bloomington earns Healthcare Design Award

BLOOMINGTON – Indiana University Health Bloomington at the Indiana University Regional Academic Health Center was presented with the 2023 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Indiana Healthcare Design Award – Citation for New Construction (>$25M) on Friday, Aug. 18 at the 2023 AIA Indiana Healthcare Design Symposium.

Brian Shockney

Brian Shockney, Senior Vice President, of IU Health System Regional Operations said, “The goal for this facility was to create an integrated campus that is a preeminent environment to heal, practice, teach, work, learn, and enhance the quality of life for each person within the campus, community, and region. This award is just one example of how the individuals involved in this project reached for and achieved excellence for the health of our communities today and in the future.”

David Rogers

David Rogers, Indiana University Director of the Interprofessional Simulation Center and
Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, said, “The design of the campus creates a collaborative interprofessional environment that brings together IU medicine, nursing, and other health professions programs with the exceptional clinical care provided by IU Health. This intersection of learning and patient care represents the vision of health professions education at its best.”

Paul Strohm

Paul Strohm, Senior Principal and Director of Healthcare for HOK, said, “This project was a collaborative effort between IU Health, IU, City of Bloomington, patients, and families. Broad participation led to the design that was influenced by ‘the outside in — how the building responds to the site, topography, views, sun, and water – and the ‘Inside out’- how the building functions from a clinical and education perspective centered around the patient experience.”

IU Health Bloomington thanks the experts, team members, and community who were involved in the creation of this award-winning facility. The team also thanks all who deliver leading-edge and compassionate care within these walls.
