Bedford man arrested for truck theft and fleeing the scene of an accident

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Saturday, August 12 after he allegedly stole a vehicle and fled the scene of an accident.

The investigation started after Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of an accident at 7102 State Road 158.

When deputies arrived the driver had fled the scene on foot. A witness told police the driver struck a pole with his truck and then fled. The witness told police the driver acted as if he was under the influence of possible drugs. The truck drove into the witness’s yard leaving tire tracks and then struck the pole. Duke Energy was alerted regarding the damaged pole.

The white Chevrolet Silverado was towed by Jackson’s Heavy Haul. The owner of the vehicle reported the vehicle stolen from the 1000 block of 21st Street on August 12 at 8:30 a.m. The owner has video footage of the theft.

Bristen Prince

In the video, police identified 31-year-old Bristen Prince as the person who stole the truck.

Another officer then reported they had found Prince hiding behind a camper at 7370 State Road 158.

The homeowner had security cameras around his home and it showed Prince hiding behind the camper on the ground along an old fence line.

Prince was detained on charges of theft of a vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident.
