GALENA – Bedford North Lawrence, ranked No.17 in the latest state poll, carded a nine-hole victory over New Albany on the front nine at Valley View on Monday.

The Stars, paced by Chloe McFaddin’s 1-over 37, posted a 160-175 triumph.

McFaddin birdied the par-3 second hole and the par-5 seventh while earning co-medalist honors. Kinleigh Root fired a 38 (with a birdie on the sixth) and Ellie Horton added a 40 (with birdies on 6 and 9). Kenley Craig capped the BNL scoring with 45.

“We had slightly better conditions and scores today than last week at Valley View.,” BNL coach Kori Johnston said. “The course was very wet, but luckily we didn’t get soaked (by an approaching storm).

“Chloe played well again. She’s confident in her game and doesn’t get easily rattled by bad shots or holes. Her mental game, along with Kenley Craig’s mental game, has improved dramatically this year. I think that comes with maturity and experience, which they both have. Being able to move on from bad shots, and make a plan for how to recover to salvage a good score, is a key ability in being a great golfer.

“Kinleigh Root also had a very solid round. She has the firepower off the tee to put up low numbers and she’s finally beginning to realize it and expect it out of herself – as she should.

“I’m proud of the team tonight. It’s the start of a big week with lots of matches, so we just have to buckle down and stay focused to keep posting good scores.”

Kaidyn Wardlaw posted a 1-over 37 for the Bulldogs.

BNL will face Seymour and Jennings County at Shadowood on Tuesday.
