Man swerves to miss deer and is minorly injured

HELTONVILLE – A Bedford man was injured Friday after he swerved to miss a deer and collided with a tree in the 2000 block of Dunn Bridge Road.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the accident at 4:05 a.m. 

According to the police report, 57-year-old Troy Denniston, of Heltonville, was traveling east on Dunn Bridge Road when a deer entered the path of travel in front of his Ford Ranger. Denniston swerved his vehicle to miss the deer, ran off the roadway, and struck a tree head-on.

Police said it was dark, the roadway was wet and it was foggy.

The impact caused Denniston to be thrown into the steering wheel and windshield causing minor abrasions and scrapes to both of his arms and the top of his head.

Denniston was transported by an IU LifeLine ambulance to IU Health Bedford Hospital for treatment.

His vehicle was towed from the scene. Estimate damages were reported between  $25,001 to $50,000.
