Lions members check vision at the 2023 Lawrence County Fair

BEDFORD – Thirty-seven members of the four Lawrence County Lions Clubs (Bedford, Bedford Noon, Mitchell, and Fayetteville Community) conducted vision screening at the Lawrence County 4H Fair from July 9 – July 15.

The Lions screened 71 adults for far and near vision and field of vision with 23 being referred with problems to seek additional follow-up professional exams.

They also screened 101 children for far and near vision with 10 being referred to seek additional follow-up professional exams.

This year Lions screened 15 children ages six to two with a KidSight camera referring one with problems to seek additional follow-up professional exams.

For the first time, the Lions tested 82 people for blood glucose with 10 running a high glucose level. Information on a diabetes diet, management, and recipes was offered, and a “Diabetes Made Simple”
the video was played on repeat.

Also, fifteen pairs of new reading glasses were given free of charge to individuals needing corrective glasses to help improve their near vision.
